Published on 26 June 2006

At the invitation of the International Writers Workshop of Hong Kong Baptist University, four famous writers visited UIC and gave lectures to UIC students on December 11th, 2005.

These four writers were Ahmed Alaidy, a fiction writer and journalist from Egypt, Mahmoud Shukair, a fiction writer and children’s literature writer from Palestine, Sitok Srengenge, a poet, fiction writer and editor from Indonesia, and Lan Pochou, a fiction writer and literary reportage specialist from Taiwan, China. They first introduced UIC students to the writing of literature, mentioning the material and background of the literature, the integration of cultures and the relation between literature and life, and then discussed with UIC students literatures from different cultures, especially the Islamic literatures.

Their visit enriched UIC students’ cultural life and provided a good opportunity for UIC students to get acquainted with the literature of other cultures, especially of Islam and Taiwan, while letting the writers know about UIC and China via Zhuhai.
