Xu Longhao is a UIC student from the Class of 2020 Statistics Programme. He has been admitted to a PhD programme concentrating on medical statistics at the University of Göttingen, Germany.

Maths has been one of Xu's favourite subjects since high school. Knowing that Prof Fang Kaitai, an internationally well-known statistician, teaches at UIC, Xu chose to spend his four years at UIC decisively after the National College Entrance Examination.
In Xu's mind, Prof Fang's instructions were like the Polaris hanging brightly in the sky, always leading him to the right way ahead. "I am lucky to be Prof Fang's student. He not only enlightens me with knowledge and thoughts, but also offers me lots of advice and help on my future development," he said.

Under the guidance of Prof Fang, Prof Pan Jianxin and Dr He Ping, Xu managed to publish two theses in two SCI journals, Statistical Papers and Communications in Statistics - Theory and Methods, and won multiple scholarships at UIC and awards at provincial competitions.
After graduating as a first-class honours degree winner from UIC, Xu went to the University of Manchester for further study in statistics. He again won the first-class honours degree as a master's.
Xu kept in touch with Prof Fang when studying in the UK, who encouraged him to continue his academic path. Therefore, propelled by his passion for scientific research, he decided to pursue a doctorate at the University of Göttingen and was successfully admitted.
Before leaving for Germany, Xu returned to UIC and worked with Prof Fang and Prof Pan as a research assistant, harnessing his skills and releasing his potential in scientific research.

Xu is now starting a new journey in Germany, and he hopes to serve and give back to society while publishing more high-level papers in the future.
