PRESS RELEASE - 16th July, 2015
UIC (United International College) is offering a summer camp for Hong Kong high school students to improve their English and Mandarin language skills as well as being introduced to Chinese cultural and historical sites.

Students will use both English and Mandarin inside and outside the classroom in this preparatory camp. The students will do small, hands-on projects, and gain a new perspective of China’s current affairs.
With 70 students expected to attend this summer all the programmes have different objectives. The programmes are to improve language proficiency levels, boost self-confidence and self-esteem and provide a different perspective on Chinese culture and current affairs.
The expected learning outcomes are that both languages’ listening and speaking proficiencies improve, self-confidence and self-esteem both increase, and they learn the essence of ancient Chinese archery and GuQin for inner strength. In addition, the students’ interpersonal skills will improve as they communicate and interact with other people, both individually and as part of a group.
Some of the activities taking place include an orientation and campus tour on the first day, while day two will mostly focus on team building. Paper-cutting, Tai Chi and a Zhuhai night tour are just a small selection of the activities that the students experience during the week-long stay.
The study programme will last one week from the 12th to the 17th July 2015. For the duration of this programme, the students will be located and have lessons in the campus of United International College (UIC), which is located in Zhuhai. There will be an excursion to Humen in Dongguan included as part of this study programme. All teaching staff, group leaders and working staff are from UIC except for the guide for Humen’s historical site.
UIC will offer the students accommodation in a dormitory with 24 hour security. Most rooms are designed for two people and have an individual bathroom and an air-conditioner.
