UIC’s journalism students excelled in the 10th Campus News Awards hosted by China Daily Hong Kong, receiving two First Prizes, two 1st Runners-Up, and two 2nd Runners-Up in the categories of Best in News Writing, Features Video Reporting, Feature Writing, and Business News Reporting.

According to China Daily, over 770 entries were submitted this year, including English-language and Chinese-language in-depth stories and feature videos, from 54 universities of the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
The award presentation ceremony was held in Hong Kong on 9 December 2021. In a pre-recorded video speech, Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor said she appreciated the efforts that the competition provided students with a “unique platform to communicate and exchange ideas with peers” from the four locations. Chief Secretary for Administration John Lee Ka-chiu officiated at the ceremony.

Since 2012, more than 20,000 journalism students from around 100 universities of the mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan have competed with over 7,000 entries. In addition, more than 100 veteran journalists, journalism scholars and government officials participated in the event as judges.
