Ms Huang Bin, one of the most outstanding Chinese violinists, presented a stunning concert for UIC teachers and students, to mark the 30th anniversary of her winning the gold medal in the Paganini Competition Tour on a beautiful evening at UIC recently.

During the concert, Huang selected seven pieces from Paganini 24 Caprices and combined them with classical works by Beethoven and Sarasate to present a wonderful musical feast for the teachers and students of UIC.

Thirty years ago, at the age of 23, Huang won the first prize in the International Violin Competition "Premio Paganini" and also won the best performance of Paganini works, becoming the first woman from East Asia to win this honour.

Five years ago, at the 25th anniversary performance of her victory at the Competition, Huang also played the 24 Caprices.

Passion and continuous learning are the characteristics embodied in Huang herself, and they are also the qualities she believes a good musician needs.

In her opinion, by preparing for the concert, she can not only maintain her status, but also improve herself from all aspects. With her experience, Huang also has more understanding of Paganini's music world. "On the whole, I think I am in a state of growth." Huang said.

"I see performing now as a process of skills practicing, and the more skilled you get, the less difficult it is." Huang suggested that when performing highly skilled repertoire, students can practice more difficult parts every day before they get on the stage, so that they will be less nervous.
