Mr Zhang Tianfu, a successful entrepreneur of two tea companies in Yunnan, was invited to give a lecture on "Origin of Pu'er Tea" at UIC on 6 December 2022. President Tang Tao, Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Fellow of the European Academy of Sciences, attended the lecture. Prof Xu Baojun, Head of the Department of Life Science, held the lecture. The lecture also welcomed participants online.

At the beginning of his lecture, Mr Zhang shared the history of tea. He also introduced the earliest tea growers from 3,200 years ago and the ancient tea trees in Yunnan, calling for the protection of ancient tea trees.

Pu'er tea is one of the famous types of tea in China. After introducing a listed intangible cultural heritage - the ancient tea-making techniques, Mr Zhang invited teachers and students to taste raw and cooked Pu'er tea and feel the different aromas and flavours.

The lecture deepened students' understanding of Pu'er tea, stimulating their enthusiasm for learning and promoting Chinese traditional tea culture in the future.
