UICers win 2nd runner-up at Disney Imaginations Hong Kong Design Competition

Published on 21 February 2024

UIC students of the Faculty of Humanities of Social Sciences and the School of Culture and Creativity teamed up and won the second runner-up during the Disney Imaginations Hong Kong Design Competition 2024.

The Disney Imaginations Hong Kong Design Competition 2024 centred around themes of sustainability and inclusion, with a focus on conservation, aiming to preserve cultural heritage at risk of being forgotten. It attracted 100 teams of over three hundred students from colleges and universities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area this year.

Members of the UIC winning team, Starlight, are Liu Simin of the Public Relations and Advertising Programme, Shen Yanhong and Qian Yiwen of the Media Arts and Design Programme. They created an experience – The Twenty-Eight Lunar Mansions – where guests can partake in six activities, each of which helps them appreciate the heritage. They can even see The Twenty-Eight Lunar Mansions at night as the entire building is constructed using glass.

The team members expressed their gratitude to each other and UIC’s faculty, stressing the importance of teamwork and storytelling, while emphasising being imaginative.

Created in 1991, Imaginations is a design competition created and sponsored by Walt Disney Imagineering in the United States. It was first held internationally in 2011 by Hong Kong Disneyland Resort (HKDL).
