The Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province has joined forces with UIC and Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) to establish a RMB90 million seed fund pool for deep tech cooperation recently. The collaboration aims to enhance research plans and talent development over three years from 2024 to 2026.

According to the deal, each year, all parties will invest in supporting up to ten joint research teams focusing on strategic areas like data science, artificial intelligence, and interdisciplinary applications. This initiative also includes building innovative platforms and constructing joint laboratories in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
UIC President Prof Chen Zhi expressed gratitude for this support, which he believes will enrich collaborations between HKBU and UIC. He emphasised their commitment to aligning national development strategies while contributing to further integration and innovation within the Greater Bay Area.
President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, Prof Alexander Wai, conveyed his enthusiasm for the collaboration and said that this partnership will utilise the strategic positioning of "One University, Two Campuses" between HKBU and UIC to foster innovative projects, stimulate transdisciplinary innovation and transformation, leading to future groundbreaking discoveries.
