Sessional Lecturer at the University of Alberta, Dr Jérôme Melançon, discussed migration issues in Canada and shared his research results on multiculturalism during a lecture at UIC on 5 May.
Dr Melançon explained why Canada accepts immigrants and analysed citizenship, culture and policies of different periods. He indicated that it is immigration from non-European countries that has led to tensions between individualist and collectivist cultures.
The lecture was organised by the Government and International Relation Programme, Division of Humanities and Social Sciences. Dr Melançon gave the lecture during a fortnight study programme at UIC in which he led a group of his students from Canada.
