On 22 September 2022, President of UIC, Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Fellow of the European Academy of Sciences Prof Tang Tao gave first-year students a lecture on their university life. Over 2000 students and staff attended the talk online and onsite.

Prof Tang first pointed out the differences between high school and university in learning and living, and he guided the new students on how to adapt to these changes. He hoped they could set up new study goals and learn to balance time. Besides, he emphasized the importance of interpersonal communication, as well as being independent, self-powered and open-minded.

Prof Tang later introduced the educational philosophies of UIC. As the first modern college in China that upholds liberal arts education, UIC encourages students to develop in a well-rounded way by implementing Whole Person Education and General Education, and to form a global vision and improve competence with advanced international education standards in a diversified environment.
