The UIC Orchestra put on a stellar performance during its fifth anniversary classical music concert.
Conducted by Music Director Volker Hartung, the orchestra, consisting of members from 12 programmes of three divisions, played Bach’s Piano Concerto in D Minor BWV 1052, Tchaikovsky’s Waltz from Swan Lake Suite, Santa Lucia, Torna a Surriento, and L’Arlésienne Suite.
Before the performance began, head of the orchestra Lu Tianyu, a year four Marketing Management student said at his opening address that the idea of founding the UIC Orchestra was put forward by UIC President Prof Ng Ching-Fai in 2011. Since then Campus Music Activity Organiser Sandra Lau organised and recruited the first group of orchestra members.
Music and art play an important role in UIC’s liberal arts education. The UIC Orchestra provides a stage for students with musical talent to practice and perform.
