Three international students have arrived at UIC for a new adventure. They are all from South Korea, looking for exciting exotic experience.
One of them is Kang Ho Yeon from South Korea’s fifth largest metropolis, Dae Jeon, and matriculates in the Computer Science and Technology Programme. It is the first time for him to study abroad. He mentions why UIC is a wise choice for him to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree.
“Courses are taught in English here. I can communicate with people from different cultures,” he says.
He also thinks that compared with some universities in Korea, studying at UIC is somewhat harsh and stressful. “This place will be good for study.”
In addition to being exposed to an international atmosphere, he wants to learn Mandarin, make Chinese friends and explore Chinese culture.
Mr Kang has drawn up a plan for his future. “I want to study hard here. After that I want to go to Hong Kong for a post-graduate study, and then back to Korea to seek an employment opportunity in a large company.”
Speaking of how he is adapting to the new environment where the outdoor temperature in summer is generally higher than that of his hometown, he adds: “I’ve met some Korean students (who study at UIC). They told me to relax, change T-shirts often and study hard.”
Coming along with him are another computer science student, Lee Seung Jae, and Yim Young Jun who will attend the Government and International Relations Programme.
They are receiving an orientation programme together with other freshmen. A new life has opened its doors to them.
