U.S. leading student affairs administrators union, American College Personnel Association (ACPA) visited UIC on May 30.
Mr. Bill Feng (left) gave a presentation to ACPA members.
Mr. Bill Feng introduced UIC’s unique concept of whole person education, four-point philosophy and academic structure. He explained that UIC employs a liberal arts education system common in America.
Professor Sze-Yong Zee revealed that UIC is trying to adopt British collegiate system. “Like Oxford and Cambridge, colleges, or what we called ‘halls’, are not just student residences, we wouldn’t want our students to regard their accommodation as just a place for to rest. Instead, we are giving students and academics the benefits of belonging to both a large, internationally renowned institution and to a smaller, interdisciplinary, academic community. Halls enable staff and students across subjects and year groups, and from different cultures and countries to come together to share ideas. ” He said.
As well as knowing UIC has already set up regular exchange and summer programmes in US, Canada, UK, France, Italy and South Korea, ACPA Executive Director Gregory Roberts said he was very impressed by UIC’s consistency of advocating student development and he hoped ACPA can establish cooperative partnership with institutions like UIC.
ACPA leads the student affairs personnel profession in providing outreach, sponsorship, research, and professional development to advance college student affair administration. It was scheduled to visit various universities in China till June 3.
