The ceremony will be presided over by
Chairman of UIC Council Prof. Xu Jialu, who will confer the Honorary Fellowships
on Dr. Edgar W.K. Cheng, Mr. Vincent H.S. Lo, Mr. XU Shaochun and Prof. Zhang Yuejiao.
President Ng Ching Fai indicates the institution symbolises the academic progress that UIC has made and he hopes that the new fellows would
inspire graduates through their examples.
In accordance with tradition
set forth by Hong Kong Baptist University, which started granting Honorary
University Fellowships at its 50th
anniversary in 2006, UIC’s Honorary
Fellowship acknowledges outstanding individuals for their
exceptional contributions in public service and their
valuable support to the College.

Dr. Cheng with UIC students
Dr. Edgar Cheng is the Chairman of the World-Wide Investment Co. Ltd. and a member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference National Committee.
He pursued his doctorate degree and medical career in the U.S. He was a clinical associate professor of medicine, and conducted medical practice and clinical research in America before returning to Hong Kong.
Dr. Cheng was a former Chairman of the University Grants Commission in Hong Kong, a former member of the Education Commission and former Chairman of the Council of The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
He was a former Chairman of the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong. In his other public service capacity, he served as the Chairman of the Council for Sustainable Development.
Dr. Cheng served as the Head of the Central Policy Unit of the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region from 1999 to 2001. He also plays a prominent role in Hong Kong-China affairs.
Mr. Vincent H. S. Lo delivers speech at UIC
Mr. Vincent H. S. Lo is the founder and Chairman of the Shui On Group which was established in 1971 when he was 23. Shui On Group engages mainly in property development, construction and construction materials in Hong Kong and Mainland China. He currently serves as a Member of the 11th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
Shanghai Xintiandi, the new landmark of Shanghai, was founded in 2001 by Mr. Lo. Its success stirred the whole of China, and became a model followed by many other Chinese cities.
Mr. Lo has also been active in community services. He participated in the preparatory work for the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and he made valuable contributions to the moulding of its Basic Law. Mr. Lo was formerly Vice-Chairman of All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce and Chairman of the Council of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
Mr. Xu Shao Chun is the founder, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Kingdee International Software Group Co. Ltd. The company is a leading management consulting and IT integrated solutions supplier in the Asia-Pacific region.
Kingdee is dedicated to providing management software and internet services to its customers. Kingdee's accounting software has helped over 12 million accounting personnel in China to get rid of their abacuses, and Kingdee's management software has helped over 1 million enterprises to realize management informatisation.
Mr. Xu has been actively contributing to society for many years. He cares for the education sector and has been actively contributing to society through his support of charitable causes.
He is also currently a member of the 9th Central Committee of the China National Democratic Construction Association, Deputy Director of the China Software Industry Association and a member of the Accounting Information Technology Committee of the Ministry of Finance.

China's Quest for Talents in a Globalized World” at UIC’s 28th High Table Dinner
Prof. Yuejiao Zhang is a well-established professor of law, veteran legislator of trade related laws and distinguished negotiator and arbitrator for international trade disputes. During the past four decades of her career, the most notable of her many achievements was her appointment in 2008 as a member of the WTO's Appellate Body by the Organisation's Dispute Settlement Body.
She was one of China's chief negotiators on intellectual property and was involved in the preparation of China's patent law, trade mark law, and copyright law. In addition, she served as counseling attorney to facilitate China's re-entry into the GATT.
Fluent in English and French, Prof. Zhang held various positions at the World Bank, Asian Development Bank and Western African Development Bank.
