Zhuhai’s first international event on computer graphic technology and culture industry was held at UIC on April 20-21.
DCCI offered an opportunity for professionals of various expertises to exchange academic research, including Prof. Yoichiro Kawaguchi, Prof. Naoko Tosa, Prof. Ryohei Nakatsu, Prof. Hyun Seung Yang, Prof. Enhua Wu and Prof. Zhigeng Pan, and participants from around the world.
Professor Enhua Wu (above) is the Associate Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology at University of Macau and Associate Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Computer Science and Technology. He specialises in Realistic Image Synthesis and Virtual Reality.
Zhejiang University’s Professor Zhigeng Pan (left) has published over 100 papers in national and international journals. His research interests include distributed graphics, virtual reality, multimedia, and digital entertainment.
Professor Ryohei Nakatsu(right) of the National University of Singapore talked about his studies on emotion recognition of speech and facial images, and it's integration in communication.
Professor Yoichiro Kawaguchi(bottom) of the University of Tokyo expressed his recent interests in nature’s beauty by presenting his latest CG artwork. He has been working on Computer Graphics (CG) since 1975. He is recognized as a pioneer of CG art with his unique ‘Growth Model’ style, which is a self-organizing method to develop one’s formative algorithm of complex life forms.
A professor from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Hyun Seung Yang(left) invented AMI (Artificial intelligence & Multimedia Innovative) humanoid robot in 2001. AMI is designed to operate like humans to communicate with each other freely by expressing various emotions on a monitor on the robot’s chest. AMI can use visual recognition to extract 3D information. The robot has both ultrasonic sensor and infrared ray sensor to avoid obstacles while moving.
Meanwhile, three galleries were set up for experts, entrepreneurs and students to present their work. Prof. Naoko Tosa showed her latest projects on digital art at one gallery.
Japanese media artist Prof. Naoko Tosa(left on above) believes in the artistic concept that "different cultures are connected as one from ancient human history at unconsciousness level". Combing such ideology with computer technology, she created a new concept called "Cultural Computing". Her collections were exhibited at museums in New York, Osaka and other places in the world.
A seminar on discussion between education, public and business sectors was held afterwards.
