UIC held its first choral speaking competition in the afternoon of March 23rd , 2011. Twelve teams which gave outstanding performances in the preliminary contest were qualified for the finals. Finally, the team named "Texas" got the third place, "Dundee" got the second place and "Alabama" won the championship. Prof. James Chan, Director of GEO and Dr. Dave Towey, Program Coordinator of TESL, presented awards to the winners respectively. The choral speaking competition was held by English Language Centre. All the teachers and teaching assistants made great efforts and the contest was an excellent success.

During the competition, all of the teams did a great job and the audiences paid great attention to them. Moreover, some of the classes used props to make their performance more colorful. When they performed the poem, they were full of emotions and their voices sound pretty nice.

One student from "Glasgow" said that they spent extra time to do the rehearsal for this contest. Each of the students on the team didn't miss the rehearsal and they treated it very seriously. He added that, "Although we don't get a satisfactory result this time, we have tried at least. More importantly, I really enjoy the fun and unity during the process."

Mr. John Halstead, coordinator of this event, was pleased with the students' effort. He said that although the students were not experienced in choral speaking, he really appreciated the wonderful performance.
