The Xu Jialu-Whole Person Education Award Plan was launched in the UIC Fung Sun Kwan Lecture Hall on May 16. Ten Year-4 students were awarded the certificates by Professor Xu. The Xu Jialu-Whole Person Education Award Plan is named after Professor Xu who has contributed greatly to UIC's Whole Person Education Program. In his speech at the ceremony Prof. Xu encouraged students to seek a well-rounded education and to develop a global vision. He shared his own experience with the audience and inspired students to set great goals, accept challenges and to improve themselves in the tradition of Chinese culture.
Dr. Guo Haipeng, Director of the WPE Office, explained that students who got the award were outstanding not only in academic subjects, but also in Whole Person Education programs, which were taken into consideration in UIC's scholarship system.
Wu Jinwen, one of the award recipients from Applied Economics, said that she was fond of UIC Whole Person Education Program especially the Emotional Health Program because the course was useful, practical and unique.
UIC Executive Vice-President S. T. Kwok, Vice-Presidents S. Y. Zee and Zhang Cong, Assistant Vice-President Wendy Chen, Dean of Business and Management Division Prof. Stella Cho, and Prof. Fang Kaitai, Chairman of the Scholarship Evaluation Committee, also attended the ceremony.
