First Aviation Forum Successfully Held at UIC

The first Aviation Forum was held at UIC from Oct. 31 to Nov. 1. Experts from the aviation industry and scholars from overseas universities gathered at the forum for discussions on aviation training, management and culture. The forum was also an effort to bring fresh ideas to assist the development of the Zhuhai aviation industry.

In the morning of Oct. 31, Captain Lee Yun-Ling, former Chairman of China Airline, Mr. Yu Yan-En, former Chairman of China Southern Airline and Prof. Margaret Tein, RMIT University, Australia, were at UIC to participate in dialogues and discussions covering topics of aviation training and management.

The Forum made UIC known to the aviation industry. Guests at the forum believed that as an international college with a Whole Person Education approach and English as the medium of instruction, UIC has its own advantages in professional aviation training. After the formal Forum, a few airline companies and training institutions expressed their intention of launching aviation education and training program jointly with UIC.

Experts and scholars gave lectures in the afternoon of Oct. 31. They talked about the importance of career planning in different perspective, introduced the qualification requirements for pilots and flight attendants, the aviation training courses and other information of the aviation industry. They also share wonderful experience of their aviation career.

Captain Li Yun-Ling, former Chairman of China Airline took the example of the crash of two Boeing 747s in 1977 to illustrate the importance of English in aviation communication. He reminded the students that it was necessary to master English if they decided to start their career in the aviation industry.

As the students of Captain Li, Captain Daniel Liu of the Chinese Society of Civil Aviation, shared with the students his interesting experience in the aviation industry from a student to a captain. Mr. Kevin Parker, Training Director of Zhuhai Flight Training Center introduced the courses and test requirements of flight training. Prof. Margaret Tein from RMIT University, Australia, a university that has foster many professionals for the aviation industry, introduced the aviation courses in RMIT University.

The lecture attracted many UIC students who were interested in joining the aviation industry. After the lecture, many of them stayed in the lecture room to ask questions.
