Published on 29 April 2007

Student Affairs Office has held the “Student Leadership Training Day 2007” for students from Student Union and student societies on April 22, 2007.

The aims of this Student Leadership Training Day are for strengthening the student leaders’ leadership ability as well as enriching their knowledge and skills in programme organization and management. Thus, students’ abilities in running student organizations and implementing student activities were expected to be enhanced.

There were around 100 students who had taken part in the program. The whole day training was begun with the welcoming remarks by the chairman of the Staff and Students Relation Committee, Prof. Sarker. During the training, Mrs. Maria Shing (Director of Student Affairs) introduced the concept of “Servant Leadership”. As follow, Mr. Johnston Huang (Director of UIC Volunteer Service Development Centre) and Mr. Y. F. Ng (Head of Counseling and Personal Growth Unit) shared the knowledge and experience of organization management, student activities planning and budgeting, as well as skills for holding meetings.

After a whole day training, students had chances to apply what they learnt in a simulative game of cabinet formation. All students were fully engaged, and show their leadership and teamwork spirit in the game. Students welcome and opined that this leadership training program was abundant, lively and practical. It is requested that similar training programmes would be organized again to benefit more students in the future.
